Gang-rape of Pakistan I

Subject: Gang-Rape of Pakistan
I am writing in reference to gory events revolving around the sacking of Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, which has led to widespread unrest in Pakistan as well as great concern among the huge Pakistani Diaspora settled across the globe.
As of my introduction, I give you my word of honour that I am totally apolitical, simple working class, non-literary Pakistani from Punjab, with no affiliation at all with any political or religious party/group. Actually, to tell the truth, I abhor most of our so-called politicians – the khaki-clad included.
Similarly, though, I do sympathise with a number of NGOs ranging from Amnesty to WWF to ‘Doctors without Frontiers’ to Greenpeace, I have nothing to do with any NGO more than wishing them well. At the same time, I have always considered it my moral, social and religious duty to have balls to call a spade a spade, when and where it calls for, without any fear, my writing incompetence notwithstanding.
Before, you use my living abroad to trivialize the subject matter, let’s suppose that this letter is written by Allah Ditta of Multan, how would you respond him? Furthermore, I am unable to find my domicile making the points put forward here, any less relevant. In fact, it is due to people like you, who have turned the great country of ours into a jungle being ruled by khaki mafia in conjunction with other dreadful rent-seeking segments of the society, that we hapless Pakistanis are fleeing the country in droves.
At least one third of Pakistanis don’t have clean drinking water, people are committing suicide due to poverty, people are selling their kidneys for paltry one lakh rupees, destitute fathers are selling their daughters, desperate parents are killing their children because they have nothing to eat. And see, you people are multi-millionaires in Dollars. No matter whether it is ridiculous sham referendum or bullet proof limousines, all public resources are there for the luxuries of so-called “defenders of Pakistan”.
Rest assured, I know bloody well that my letter wouldn’t make any difference. Our generals have got their self-respect, honour and ghairat operated upon along with their spines. They have become totally immune to appeals and requests. The only language they understand is checks in US Dollars. Or is it Euros you prefer nowadays as head money? Musharraf has admitted himself in his book about the millions received in head money. Where have those millions gone? Not to ASI Sabir or ISI Havaldar Qurban Shah. It is in your accounts. But, still I consider it my duty to put across as good as I simply could what many Pakistanis today feel like.
To begin with, believe me, I have yet to meet a single Pakistani who doesn’t consider sacking of the Chief Justice, particularly his manhandling, humiliation and incarceration afterwards as gang-rape of the nation by the junta. Academic discussion that every PCO is gang-rape of the nation aside, this reprehensible act is murder and rape of the nation in one, by any standard.
It is absolutely not about the individual but rather the position held by that individual. It is most importantly about the sanctity of the Supreme Court of Pakistan as the final arbiter of law.
And when we had naively assumed that things couldn’t get worse, the carnage of innocent Pakistanis in Karachi on May 12, orchestrated, by all circumstantial evidence available, directly at the behest of Musharraf and his cohorts, left us aghast. Adding insult to injury, while Pakistanis were being butchered in Karachi, telecasted live on TV, Musharraf was bragging about his power in front of a rented crowd.
Please, for God’s sake convey the warning to those it may concern, that once adored, cherished and respected institution of military is being abused, spitted on, as never imagined before. You cannot even dream of the level of brewing anger against army’s top command today. To be sure, the high command would have taken stock of the situation and hammered out its contingency plans on both a short and long-term basis. What is truly worrisome is the looming prospect of the situation getting out of control seriously damaging harmonious civil-military relations – the linchpin of national stability and the rule of law.
People like Wasi Zafar and Mohammad Ali Ghalt-Byani and the huge rubbish they have churned out have made the matter even more worse. To ordinary people on the street, Musharraf and the disgusting lot he has gathered around him [in civvies and uniform] represent the sheer filth of our society in all its forms and manifestations.
And I am telling you, that all of you wearing uniform who have neither courage nor morality to condemn this darkest episode of our much chequered political history are not better than those (horrible) politicians you people are so fond of bashing.
If you ask what would have we done? Simple. What would [or should] have you done if Musharraf had raped your daughter, wife, sister or mother? You may use whatever criteria you want, what Musharraf did with the honourable Chief Justice and then on May 12, is not less than that. Raping the nation … do you understand what does it mean … yeah you people are gang-raping your own daughters, mothers and sisters … everyone of you, wearing general pips.
Imagine, Karachi was burning, slayers were gunning down innocent people “live”, the corps commander Karachi was summoned by the Chief Justice Sind High Court and the disgusting general refused to come. Come on, if the roads were blocked, he could take the same chopper that was being offered to the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan.
This is the respect of courts, this is the rule of law. In any civilized country such a despicable bunch of generals would have been tried for high treason and thrown in jail, if not executed publicly, a long time ago. Am I then wrong to ask: for what do we feed such a parasitic lot of generals with our blood and sweat? If you are vested with some trust, authority or (fire)power, you are responsible for its discharge in accordance with law.
Not a long time ago, many of the generals posted to key posts were close relatives of Musharraf. I don’t know what the ratio of that quotient is right now. Anyhow, regardless you belong to that family cabinet or not, you are willingly or unwillingly complicit in the ongoing gang-rape of the country.
Where does the top brass of Pakistan go from here? One thing is clear. You people must realise that your own fortune is linked intrinsically with the solidarity of the country you so brutally rule and callously abuse. It would be naïve to think that you could personally survive while the country slides into perdition. There are more cracks and fissures in it today than when the military yet again took power in 1999 – to save the country.
The callous inaction of the law enforcement authorities in general and military authorities in particular in the face of extensive violence can either be explained as government incompetence or complicity. Therefore, it wouldn’t be wrong to assert that the carnage of innocent people was orchestrated none other than the very army of Pakistan and its chief. How do you justify that? Can it be justified in any sense?
Please, read what the monthly Newsline reported in its last issue:
“Although the firing continued for over two hours, no one from the administration showed up to rescue the participants of the rally, many of whom were injured in the hail of bullets. "And this, despite the fact that there's a Corps Commander's office located right there, the ISI office is across the road and a police station is located hardly a stone's throw away," says Channa.
Mohammed Moosa, another Karachiite who was trapped near Malir Halt, also located on Shahrah-e-Faisal, stated that heavy firing started just a few yards away from the headquarters of the Frontier Corps (FC) police, but no one emerged from inside the building to help those under fire. At least 12 people were killed and scores of others injured at the Malir halt signal.”

Still you have the gumption to demand respect from us? Bloody hell. Are you totally shameless or are you a thoroughbred idiot?
There are no possibilities for you going up the ladder. You will retire at the rank you have been elevated to. At the most Musharraf can arrange for you some agricultural land and a plot or two under the cover of some stupid medals. No one will remember you. You will be just one of more lousy generals out of infinite numbers of generals produced by Pak army – nowadays on conveyer belt.
But, you can immortalize yourself, you can get Nishan-e-Haider of civil courage and a lot of love and infinite amount of respect by spitting in the face of a usurper. By resigning and going public that you cannot be an instrument of a despot for butchering and oppressing your own countrymen. By declaring that your oath, your conscience doesn’t allow to fiddle around with the Constitution and national institutions, you can leave a legacy that would be cherished by coming generations.
We, the hapless Pakistanis expect out of our 3-4-star officers at least not to act as butler, peon or batman of Musharraf? Or worse watching Musharraf to be your pimp? There are slim chances, in foreseeable future that any civilian government can cut the official loot of generals then why all defence resources and goodwill are being squandered only to perpetuate one single idiot?
There a number of judges and legal officials who have resigned in protest but we have yet to see a single military officer who has this much courage or should I call it shame and ghairat to stand up and be counted. Every 3-4-star general is guilty by association even if not directly involved in the horrendous games being played by the military high command.
Let’s put thing in perspective, let me enlighten you a little bit. Chief Justice could do everything for his na-laik son through various channels but he couldn’t coerce, manipulate or force Federal Public Service Commission FPSC. In the ocean of corruption, FPSC is one of the very few institutions, that to an extent, work as they should and people have seldom genuine reasons to point finger at it. To your knowledge the head of FPSC enjoys complete constitutional cover for his/her tenure. The last chairman of FPSC was your peti-bhai and senior Lt. General Jamshed Gulzar Kyani. This bloody Musharraf of "Pakistan Last, Musharraf First" fame, fired Kyani arbitrarily [and unconstitutionally] by cutting his tenure because he was not listening to clear his and his henchmen’s corrupt officers.
Likewise, can you deny that the murder of the additional registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr Hamad Raza was sanctioned by Musharraf and taken care by military agencies?
Apropos accountability, it would suffice to mention just one example. Former NAB Deputy Chairman Hasan Wasim Afzal and his team spent millions of dollars for becoming party in this case. He and his team made numerous foreign tours to collect the proof. When the case was about to take the final turn, the whole cell was dismantled for baiting BB only and only to pave way for one more term for Musharraf.
Le Figaro, the leading French daily, wrote of 1971 debacle "Pakistan is a country which is ruled by pimps and prostitutes after dusk."
What should and would Le Figaro be writing today about the top military command of Pakistan? I think that Le Figaro needs to just add … from dawn to dusk and then dusk to dawn.
“Brigadiers and generals would "drop their wives at the President's House saying they'd pick them up later." Ali (Yahya) remembers his father saying: "I will never promote these shameless husbands. If these men can't take care of their wives, how can they take care of the army?" But Yahya Khan too failed to "take care" of his country, so busy was he with women and wine.”

It is heartrending indeed to observe that the current gang of senior officers is worse than the despicable bunch described above. The mode of selection, criteria for promotion and “performance level” seem to be the same ignominious as of those dark days of our history.
The note that was issued after the last Corps Commanders’ Conference makes every sane person to throw up. According to that you people took serious note of the malicious campaign against institutions of state, launched by vested interests and opportunists, who were acting as obstructionist forces to serve their personal interests and agenda even at the cost of flouting the rule of law, and all that rubbish.
But, did you people take notice of the horrible carnage of May 12 as well? Have you ever noticed what your chief has been doing to the Constitution, national institutions, accountability, judiciary, for purely personal interests? Or should we assume that you all are party to his game? Or being the recipient of bandar-bant of Pakistan, the division of maal-e-ghanimat, it is your interest as well to pretend deaf and blind when the question of responsibility arises.
How naïve of us, who we have always thought that the army is not a political party. We has so far believed that our generals would be loyal to the country not a squatting general, we have wrongly assumed that army officer takes an oath to uphold the Constitution, not his commander. Alas. We are wrong on all counts.
How long can you suppress people, how long can you fool 160 million gullible Pakistanis? Keep in mind that it’s just a matter of time that it will explode in your face and take you and your families down. Generals ought to die for their country not the vice-versa. What a tragedy then that in Pakistan people are dying and being killed for the sake of generals’ rule and greed?
Despite his declared pledge to stand by his military chief, a soldier might be left with a difficult choice between his loyalty to the individual and the institution. It has indeed been reassuring to see professional cohesion and structural harmony at the highest level of the top brass. But, it is indeed a moment of truth for the chief, his PSOs (principal staff officers) and corps commanders. Can the CCC’s declaration be seen as an admission of the army being gradually hustled into the political blind alley without an easy exit within sight?
DPO Pishin, Amil Shamim Wayne, is a brother of nominated corps commander, Quetta, Lt-Gen Khalid Shamim Wayne. The corps commander’s appointment was made on April 14, while his brother gave the “false” affidavit on the 17th of April. This is the standard of our star officers today. How sad! The same goes for other senior military officers who had no qualms telling lies under oath. A pack of hyenas delivering a bundle of lies, should we cry or should we laugh?
You may kill me, the only art you have probably learned in your professional life – to kill fellow innocent Pakistanis who dare to raise voice. You have my address. Let the world, let Pakistan witness the hatred a common, apolitical Pakistani harbours against the senior brass of Pakistan army.
Alas, you people are no more sincere even to the institution you so hypocritically talk about –army. A serving military officer was beaten up in front of his family when his car did not give way to the MQM minister's motorcade. That enlightened and moderate minister is still there enjoying official perks and privileges. Those who cannot rightly defend their own officers from goons what the hell they can do for the defence of the motherland?
Only to keep my letter readably short I have confined myself to verifiable events regarding recent Supreme Court episode. Otherwise, there is so much to write and weep over that I can keep on going for many, many more pages.
Over to you, Pak Fauj ke na-Pak general.
